The 7 deadly SINS project
SINS dance is currently in creation with the 7 Deadly SINS series, where the collective is co-creating and initiating commissions from artists across Canada. The 7 deadly SINS are the topic of discussion and each SIN is the catalyst for investigation.
The first of the series, 'How much is TOO much?' based on Gluttony was created August 2007 by choreographer Sara Coffin. Early 2008, marked the creation for the second work, 'Invidia' surrounding the concept of Envy choreographed by Susanne Chui. Both pieces have now been presented with full production values in Vancouver and Halifax respectively, and are ready to tour.
Jacinte Armstrong premiered the third work in the series, based on Sloth in January 2009. 'Techno Sloth' was created in two parts with both a dance film and as a performance piece. Next in series will be 'Xs' a new worked surrounding the theme of Greed. This work will be the first commissioned sin and will be created by Vancouver artist, Daelik in 2010.
As we dig deeper into the dark side, the investigation of movement becomes richer and the process becomes more and more exciting. It is the exchange of ideas and the process-orientated work that is significant for the collective. The 7 deadly SINS series is a vessel to improve our modes of inquiry and a platform for exchange with other artists.
